Trevor Vaughan "I remember hearing youth of today and thinking that was super abrasive, chaotic music"

11 Questions with Trevor Vaughan of Wound Man, xFilesx, and Wolf Whistle

1.          Where are you from?

New Bedford, Ma.

2.          What do you think about chaos magic?

Had to look that shit up. That’s cool. I personally don’t believe in anything spiritual/supernatural, but this seems pretty straight forward from what I can tell. Do what you want? Yea sure.

3.          When and why did you start playing music?

Some time in high school (98-01) not unlike most of us, I grabbed a flyer from the local skate shop and checked out a gig. I wanted to start my own band the moment I saw how much energy exploded in that room. Seemed so fun to me. BOY was I wrong..

4.          What was your first show?

A gig in NB at this rehab center that had shows every weekend. The line-up probably had all the local yocals like Smackin Isaiah (now A Wilhelm Scream) All Chrome (one of ferret records early releases) Freedom Force (which was pre-rampage) and a bunch others. A lot of fun, random shows have happened in New Bedford.

5.          How did you get into the genre(s)?

Just digging deeper and deeper into the extremities. I remember hearing youth of today and thinking that was super abrasive, chaotic music. Nearly lost my mind when I found out about power violence/grind etc.

6.          Three biggest influences?

Crossed Out - in my opinion the standard of what aggressive music should sound like.

Fugazi - the production on “end hits” changed the way I thought about mixing/effects in studio.

Tom Waits - so many albums that are so outside the box but still catchy.. a constant source of creativity and inspiration for me.

7.          How do you feel about the current state of the community or communities you’re apart of?

Amazing. Music-wise there is so much going on in the Rhode Island area.. tons of originality and a lot of kids psyched on bands. Generally speaking, in New Bedford the community is booming. New shops popping up all over the place, artists creating and doing what they love everyday, community outreach programs happening and succeeding, etc. It’s inspiring.

8.          What are some of your favorite new bands?

Kidnapped, Skrawl, Moisturizer, Corrode

9.          What is an unforgettable memory you recall from being on tour?

Brawling in New Jersey on the XFilesX/Think I Care tour, getting stranded for 8 days in Belgium with Sex Positions, hitchhiking to shows with no gear in Russia with Outrage.. I could write a book. Actually I couldn’t I’m a horrible writer.

10.       Three Favorite places to eat in the US?

McDonalds, KFC and Taco Bell

11.        If you had to write your own eulogy, what would it be?

“Since U been gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on, yeah, yeah
Thanks to you, now I get what I want
Since U been gone.”

Katy, Tx, - Houston suburb 2.            What do you think about chaos magic? See next answer. 3.            When and why did you start playing music? I remember really finding way more interest in music around 4th grade. It went from being obsessed with Michael Jackson and listening to mostly soundtracks for movies that I liked and figuring out what I liked from that kind of selection. Seeing the music video for Metallica's "One" and "Enter Sandman" and the release of the "You Could Be Mine" G'n'R video as promotion of Terminator 2; pretty much did it for me and set me off down a path of finding heavier music while convenie...

I dont really believe in anything supernatural but with a name like chaos magic it’s gotta be mad sick. 3.          When and why did you start playing music? I was always into music, even as a little kid. I used to be more into the music from NES games than the games themselves. I started playing guitar with my dad when I was 11. I never had any big aspirations but I stuck with it because I legitimately enjoyed playing. I wasnt the most diligent guitar student when I started taking lessons, but I was always learning songs, and that ear-training is something I still use today. 4.          What was your first show?
