Dan Gargiulo "“are feminists ruining gaming?” Fuck outta here. I just wanna play RPGs dog."

11 Questions with Dan from, Artificial Brain and Revocation

1.          Where are you from?

Valley Stream, NY. Currently living near Richmond, VA.

2.          What do you think about chaos magic?

I dont really believe in anything supernatural but with a name like chaos magic it’s gotta be mad sick.

3.          When and why did you start playing music?

I was always into music, even as a little kid. I used to be more into the music from NES games than the games themselves. I started playing guitar with my dad when I was 11. I never had any big aspirations but I stuck with it because I legitimately enjoyed playing. I wasnt the most diligent guitar student when I started taking lessons, but I was always learning songs, and that ear-training is something I still use today.

4.          What was your first show?

My first show was at a pub, “Patty and Johnny’s” on long island. We were just 15 year old chumps, covering slayer songs, stuff like that. We sucked, but you gotta suck at first and get it outta the way, ya know?

5.          How did you get into the genre(s)?

I grew up with classic rock, then I was obsessed with Nirvana. I still am. I got into metallica when i was 12, meshuggah when I was 13, then I found death and went on a band-discovering spree. I got into black metal shortly after and it remains my favorite subgenre.

6.          Three biggest influences?

Video game OST’s, Nirvana, Blut Aus Nord.

7.          How do you feel about the current state of the community or communities you’re apart of?

I’m a pretty antisocial person, and I never felt like I fit into any communities or groups of any kind. I spend a lot of time by myself.

When I was doing sports in junior high/highschool, I hated the jocks. I had a small amount of close friends that I played music with and that was it. Even though I play in bands, I never felt like I was a part of the community. I almost never go to shows because crowds give me anxiety. Ive been disappointed by some people in the metal scene, but I’ve met some amazing people as well. So I dont wanna paint it with a broad brush.

As for the gaming scene, well I just think that’s the worst community there is. I read an article the other day, something to the extent of “are feminists ruining gaming?” Fuck outta here. I just wanna play RPGs dog.

8.          What are some of your favorite new bands?

Man, Im so out of touch. I was way into misphyrming for a minute, I know that’s not new anymore. I was way into icelandic BM. Honestly ive just been listening to chopin, shostakovich, and debussy lately. Suffering hour, if you consider them new, are one of my favorites right now for sure.

9.          What is an unforgettable memory you recall from being on tour?

This is a lame answer, i know, but honestly just kicking it with the bands we’re on tour with, blazing weed backstage, goofing off during our free time, thats the stuff I love the most. Of course its easy to get starstruck and be like “omg I met one of my childhood heroes”, but the coolest thing is realizing that these larger than life rock stars are just regular people. I love just connecting with people on a down to earth level.

10.       Three Favorite places to eat in the US?

Damnnnnnnn ok thats a tough one. Lemme generalize a bit for brevity's sake. Pizza/italian in the tri-state area, vietnamese in seattle, mexican in southern cali.

But really, anything spicy (habanero level and above) is the key to my crotchety heart.

11.        If you had to write your own eulogy, what would it be?

RIP Danny. He sure did love pot. 👾 😎 🌶
