Tommy Wilson "This dumbass ran his fuckin mouth, made a billion show posters and smoked too much weed"

Tommy Wilson from Scum Human, Stress Collapse, Gun Slaughter (Was in: Throat Slitter, War Hero, Obacha, Prison Violence)

1.          Where are you from?

I was born in Squamish, BC and have currently been living in Vancouver for almost 4 years now.

2.          What do you think about chaos magic?

I honestly had to google what chaos magic is. I’m not too big on wizard shit so fuck it.

3.          When and why did you start playing music?

My dad had a drum kit in his shed so I’ve been playing drums my whole life. It basically stemmed from boredom. Luckily my uncle is a very talented drummer and taught me a lot of basic shit when I was really young.

4.          What was your first show?

Hit Me Back, Chuck Norris, Help Wanted, All Bridges Burned and Pieces of Bread at the Squamish youth centre April 2002. Help Wanted played 2 Charles Bronson covers (and sounded exactly like them) so I was pretty hooked on that, and would go to all their shows for about another year until they broke up.

5.          How did you get into the genre(s)?

Before I stated going to shows I was into Nofx, rancid, shit like that. I honestly got into a lot of punk bands from the THPS1 soundtrack. It really wasn’t long before I was getting my hands on Spazz and Crossed Out mixtapes from the older punks around town, and soon after started booking shows. Squamish (a town of 20,000 people) actually had a pretty decent PV/grind scene around 2002-2003.

6.          Three biggest influences?

Mark McCoy has had a massive influence on me musically, and artistically as well. I went to design school based off my love for Charles Bronson’s record layouts.

Sam McPheeters is another major influence on me, solely based on how often he would run his fucking mouth during Born Against.

Lastly I’d say Ebro Virumbrales because I used to blast Charles Bronson/Crudos out of an old stereo and play drums along with the songs, over and over until I was up to speed. That’s how I learned how to play drums.

7.          How do you feel about the current state of the community or communities you’re apart of?

The Vancouver punk scene is pretty decent, not a lot of extreme shit unfortunately. I’m one of the very few booking PV/grind shows out here so it gets a bit tiring, but someone has to do it. I find California always has a handful of good PV bands at any given time, and I’m close enough that I can make it down there about twice a year.

8.          What are some of your favorite new bands?

I haven’t really been looking too hard lately. The Vile Gash LP was pretty ripping, the Depraved guys are usually doing side projects that are always good. There’s a few new grind bands in Van I honestly haven’t been fucked to check out yet. Maybe I’m just jaded.

9.          What is an unforgettable memory you recall from being on tour?

The first time OBACHA played Los Angeles. I just couldn’t believe how many people showed up, and how hard they all went off. That was really special for me.

10.       Three Favorite places to eat in Canada?

The donair spot (Mr.Shwarmas) by my work cause they got dank veggie poutine. Uncle Fatihs pizza cause it’s a block from my house and La Taqueria downtown, because it’s the closest thing I’ll get to authentic Mexican food at an unreasonable price.

11.        If you had to write your own eulogy, what would it be?

This dumbass ran his fuckin mouth, made a billion show posters and smoked too much weed.

Trevor Vaughan "I remember hearing youth of today and thinking that was super abrasive, chaotic music"

11 Questions with Trevor Vaughan of Wound Man, xFilesx, and Wolf Whistle 1.          Where are you from? New Bedford, Ma. 2.          What do you think about chaos magic? Had to look that shit up. That’s cool. I personally don’t believe in anything spiritual/supernatural, but this seems pretty straight forward from what I can tell. Do what you want? Yea sure. 3.          When and why did you start playing music? Some time in high school (98-01) not unlike most of us, I grabbed a flyer from the local skate shop and checked out a gig. I wanted to start my own band the moment I saw how much energy exploded in that room. Seemed so fun to me. BOY was I wrong.. 4.          What was your first show? A gig in NB at this rehab center that had shows every weekend. The line-up probably had all the local yocals like Smackin Isaiah (now A Wilhelm Scream) All Chrome (on...

Alex Hughes "I've had that guitar for 23 years now and I've written almost every song with that guitar."

Katy, Tx, - Houston suburb 2.            What do you think about chaos magic? See next answer. 3.            When and why did you start playing music? I remember really finding way more interest in music around 4th grade. It went from being obsessed with Michael Jackson and listening to mostly soundtracks for movies that I liked and figuring out what I liked from that kind of selection. Seeing the music video for Metallica's "One" and "Enter Sandman" and the release of the "You Could Be Mine" G'n'R video as promotion of Terminator 2; pretty much did it for me and set me off down a path of finding heavier music while convenie...

I was always into music, even as a little kid. I used to be more into the music from NES games than the games themselves. I started playing guitar with my dad when I was 11. I never had any big aspirations but I stuck with it because I legitimately enjoyed playing. I wasnt the most diligent guitar student when I started taking lessons, but I was always learning songs, and that ear-training is something I still use today. 4.          What was your first show? My first show w...
