Ralph Ferrara " New crop is DUSTING all the old bands"

11 Questions with Ralph Ferrara of Haunted Hotel Records 1. Where are you from? I'm from Yonkers / Woodlawn / Bronx NY - A border Jumper if you will 2. What do you think about chaos magic? I have no fucking idea what you are talking about 3. When and why did you start your label? Label started officially in 2001 when me and my old friend Carlos were hanging out one night...drinking some beers at his place , spinning some records , just admiring the sounds and the actual craftmanship of the record....we thought it'd be cool to make our own. Carlos was my partner for HHR01 and HHR02 but he moved out of NY shortly after and i kept it going since. First release came out Feb 2002. 4. What was your first concert?  Asides from a few free punk shows at a local record shop (ROCKIN' REX IN YONKERS) , my first show was the NYHC BBQ in Peekskill NY in October or November 1994. The lineup was amazing. Got to see WARZONE , 25 TA LIFE , REJUVENAT...

Athena Kautsch "More people of all genders, sexual orientations, and cultures should be a part of our community, and that’s something we all need to work on."

11 Questions with Athena Kautsch of Voetsek, Head of Zeus Records, and Producer/Director of The Power Violence Project Documentary 1. Where are you from? I am a Bay Area native. I was born in San Francisco, and live in Oakland. 2. What do you think about chaos magic? I don’t. 3. When and why did you start your label/documentary? I started Six Weeks with my ex-husband in 1993 because we wanted to showcase bands that we felt more people should know about. He is now doing the label alone, and I am starting a new label in the spring of 2019 called From the Head of Zeus, which is a nerdy mythology reference that’s a play on my name. The first release will be a full-length by Endorphins Lost. I’m taking over Short, Fast & Loud, and a new issue will come out in the late spring that will come with a sick top-secret flexi. My filmmaking partner, Melissa, and I started The Power Violence Project two years ago. We’re both inspired by and love classic West Coas...

Cynthia Naomi "Either you are into music or you a gangsta. Definitely music kept most of us alive."

11 Questions with Cynthia from Despise You and Gasp 1. Where are you from?   Gardena, CA. 2. What do you think about chaos magic?  I don’t. 3. When and why did you start playing music?   When I was about 13 I wished to be Motley Crue, yes the whole band. My family never cared for me to ever do music but I saved up for an acoustic guitar. When I was maybe 14-15, my best friend from my hood, Jerry used to have guitar lessons so I waited for him to come home. I walked two blocks to his house so he can teach me how to play Metallica jams. He also got a 4 track so we got cool and recorded R&B songs. We like so many types of music. We started messing with industrial shit, noise and even death metal. 4. What was your first show?   I say my first concert I was 12 at the Hollywood Bowl at a classical event. Then my ex boyfriend who’s a Maiden fanatic took me to Iron Maiden in Long Beach where they made us scream!! From there the list...

Dom Romeo "Whether a band is old or new doesn't matter to me. Good songs have a timeless life to them."

(Live photo by Julia Lofstrand) 11 Questions with Dom Romeo of Pulling Teeth and Integrity (Slumlords, Hatewaves, Day of Mourning) 1.  Where are you from? I grew up in a suburb outside of Toronto Canada called Malton.  Sandwiched a few blocks between the airport and railroad, it was pretty noisy most of the time.  It was boring suburb, but  luckily we  had good public transportation that could get us downtown to Toronto within an hour.  From there a world of record stores and venues were at our disposal...until the last bus back to Malton left  the station. 2.   What do you think about chaos magic? I don't . 3.   When and why did you start playing music? I've been blessed / cursed with a lifetime of multiple sounds playing in my head  at all times.   The moments of clarity where I can extract what's in my head and bring it into the  real world  are when the real magic h...

11 Questions with Dan from, Artificial Brain and Revocation 1.          Where are you from? Valley Stream, NY. Currently living near Richmond, VA. 2.          What do you think about chaos magic? I dont really believe in anything supernatural but with a name like chaos magic it’s gotta be mad sick. 3.          When and why did you start playing music? I was always into music, even as a little kid. I used to be more into the music from NES games than the games themselves. I started playing guitar with my dad when I was 11. I never had any big aspirations but I stuck with it because I legitimately enjoyed playing. I wasnt the most diligent guitar student when I started taking lessons, but I was always learning songs, and that ear-training is something I still use today. 4.          What was your first show? My first show w...
